Jeff and Judy James of James Family Vineyards: From Pasture to Vineyard | Community
Two local people, Jeff and Judy James, have farming and wine in their blood. They bought a property in 1997 outside Cotati and developed it into a nice area of ââvines which were planted in 1998 and harvested for the first time in 2000.
The James family is tight-knit, with Judy being the fourth generation in a family to be involved in farming in Sonoma County.
The Jamese have built a beautiful farm on their country land and raised two sons who both graduated from college. Robert attended Sacramento State and Matt went to San Francisco State and both work on the campuses where they graduated.
Jeff has been a financial advisor with Merrill Lynch in Santa Rosa for 27 years and holds professional designations including Chartered Financial Planner, Pension Benefits Advisor, Registered Plan Trustee Advisor and Wealth Management Advisor.
Judy is a public affairs consultant and has held similar positions at Kaiser Permanente, Comcast, Republic Services and Clover Sonoma. She was also an assistant instructor at Santa Rosa Junior College and executive director of the Sonoma County Farm Bureau.
Jeff is the past chairman of the board of directors of Sonoma-Marin Fair and the Farm Bureau Foundation of the Sonoma County board of directors and also sits on the board of directors of the Family Justice Center of Sonoma County Foundation. Jeff has also served as president of the Rohnert Park Chamber of Commerce and the North Bay Active 20-30 Club.
Judy currently serves on the board of directors of the Redwood Credit Union and the Sonoma County Farm Bureau, and previously served as chair of the board of directors of the Santa Rosa Metro Chamber of Commerce.
After winning several awards for their amateur wines in previous years, they took a big step forward in 2007 and launched their award-winning cellar, James Family Cellars. They also sell some of their grapes to leading wineries in Sonoma and Napa counties.
Their rustic and peaceful property is located in the cool part of famous Sonoma County wine country and less than 20 miles from the ocean.
At James Family Cellars, the word âcraftedâ isn’t just a marketing term, it refers to their dedication to nurturing their grapes every step of the way from the vineyard to the bottle.
Jeff has another talent that is not often mentioned. He loves to cook and try new recipes and writes a monthly column for The Community Voice newspaper.
