More than 56,000 requests for conversion of agricultural land | Ahmedabad News
Gandhinagar: The state government revenue department received 56,566 applications in two years – 2019 and 2020 – for the conversion of agricultural land to non-agricultural use. The information was provided by State Revenue Minister Kaushik Patel on Saturday in response to a series of questions posed by congressmen during the current budget session of the Gujarat Assembly.
According to a written response to the assembly, requests have been made to convert 57.73 crore square meters of agricultural land to other uses in 2019 and 2020. The government has granted permission to convert 16.80 crore square meters of farmland in 2019 and 13.47 crore square meters in 2020.
This implies that among the requests for the conversion of 57.73 million square meters of agricultural land for non-agricultural purposes, the government has authorized the conversion of 30.27 million square meters of agricultural land for non-agricultural purposes.
The Minister, in his written responses, informed the assembly that the state government had earned revenues of Rs 1,153.33 crore in 2019 and rupee 898.95 crore in 2020 through the authorization of converting agricultural land to non-agricultural use.
